SHARON
I gave up work last year to look after my husband. We’ve been married for 32 years and both are in our 50s. Ken has had chronic bronchial asthma for 30 years and about 12 years ago was ventilated in intensive care for 10 days. Doctors suggested that he would never work again but he did until last year. Now he has bronchiechtis, copd and asthma, We live in Yorkshire and I would love to chat to other carers.
AVRIL
My husband had Lung Volume Reduction surgery in 2003 but had a collapsed lung diagnosed as far back as 1990. However he still carried on smoking. He refuses to stop working outside and unfortunately we do need the money. His strength lies in working with his hands and he would be lost without doing what he does. I am only in my late 30s and he is in his mid-50s but I still find it difficult looking after my children, caring for my husband (when he lets me) & making sauces for the catering industry. I should be delighted, however, to communicate with any other carers.
GENIE
Hello - I am Genie from Mississippi, USA. My 81 year old mother has recently been diagnosed with COPD. The health care professionals have not given us much education about COPD so I am trying to learn from internet sources. I do not know anyone with COPD or who is a caregiver of an elderly parent. I would like to talk to other caregivers and learn more about what to expect, how to make life more comfortable, etc.
Thanks for the website and for those who would like to contact me.

Hello, my 70 year old father was diagnosed with copd about 12 months ago now even though he'd been having the symptoms since 2001, after months of pestering the doctors and nurses at the hospital he finally got his home oxygen machine and portable oxygen. I would love to hear from carers or sufferers. Please e mail me anytime. Thanks also to you john for a wonderfully informative site.
